Cyril Obi is currently a program director at the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) and leads the African Peacebuilding Network (APN) program, bringing his extensive research, networking and publishing experience on African peace, security, and development to the Council. From January 2005-2011 he was a senior researcher at the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden. He has been on leave since 2005 from the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) where he is an associate research professor. In 2004 he was awarded the Claude Ake Visiting Chair at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research at the University of Uppsala. Dr. Obi is also a research associate of the Department of Political Sciences, University of Pretoria, South Africa, and a visiting scholar to the Institute of African Studies (IAS), Columbia University, New York.
