First meeting of the Working Group “Reconstructing the Self”

The working group “Reconstructing the Self” had its first meeting by the end of June in order to collaborate on the chapter they are going to produce for the IPEV report.

This working group is led by Richard Rechtman , psychiatrist, anthropologist and director of research at École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS, Paris), and is constituted of five members: Clara Han, professor at Johns-Hopkins University (Baltimore); Emilie Medeiros, researcher in the department of psychiatry at University College London; Hélène Dumas, professor at Sciences Po Bordeaux; Lotte Buch Segal, professor at the University of Copenhagen; Valérie Robin-Azevedo, assistant director of the Centre d’anthropologie culturelle, Université Paris-Descartes.

The members that attended the meetings agreed on working on different subjects to deal with the general topic:

  • The trauma’s description by the own victims
  • The social network of perpetrators in a post-violence context
  • New repertoires of public actions (exhumations)
  • Dealing with perpetrators in a context of post-violence
