The Steering Committee makes the general strategic decisions. The Steering Committee is composed of about ten scholars of diverse origins, professions and disciplines, who combine first-rate scholarship and experience in research management.

Director of studies at the School of Advanced Social Science Studies (EHESS) and chair of FMSH, Michel Wieviorka is general director of the Platform on Violence and Exiting Violence including the Observatory on radicalisations. He is a member of the scentific committee of the European Research Council and founder of the journal Socio. His research focus on violence, conflict, terrorism, racism, antisemitism, social movements, democracy, and cultural differences issues.

Director of studies emeritus at the Institut de recherche pour le développement (IRD), Jean-Pierre Dozon is an anthropologist and published over a dozen of works, and mainly worked in West Africa on development, health, ethnic issues, on relations between politics and the religious sphere, and on Franco-African and Sino-African relations. He is also director of studies at EHESS, member of the Institut des mondes africains (IMAF) et vice-chair of the Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme.
Yvon Le Bot

Member of the Centre d’analyse et d’intervention sociologiques (CADIS, EHESS), Yvon Le Bot is a sociologist and associate member of the Collège d’études mondiales (FMSH). He has held a chair “Marie Curie” of the European Commission and taught in many universities in Latin America, at Berkeley, Louvain-la-Neuve, La Sapienza (Rome). Yvon Le Bot also worked for the United Nations. His research focus on social movements, cultural mouvements, violence and exiting violence, identities and democracy, especially in Latin America.

Farhad Khorsokhavar is senior researcher at the EHESS and Director of the FMSH’s Observatory on radicalisations. He is the author of several publications on jihadism, radicalization in prisons and the Arab revolutions, including Le jihadisme. Le comprendre pour mieux le combattre, 2015 (alongside D. Bénichou and P. Migaux).

Geographer, diplomat and French essay writer, Michel Foucher is the founder of the Observatoire européen de géopolitique in Lyon, and collaborated on many issues of the journal Hérodote. He is a Member of the scientific commitee of the Collège d’études mondiales (FMSH), and holds a chair in geopolitics. He is also member of the Foreign Affairs Council and expert at the Economic and Defense Council and advisor of the Peace and Security Divison at the African Union Comission (Addis Abeba, Ethiopia).

Hillary S. Wiesner is the Carnegie Corporation’s program director for Transnational Movements and the Arab Region. She most recently served as the first director of programmes of the Vienna-based intergovernmental Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue. Ms. Wiesner previously held the positions of director of the Islam Initiative and director of Fellowships and Arab Region Programs at the Corporation
Researcher at Ecole des Haute Etudes en Sciences sociales de Paris (EHESS), member of the steering committee of the IPEV project
Adel Bakawan is a sociologist, associate researcher at Ecole des Haute Etudes en Sciences sociales of Paris (EHESS). He is a lecturer at the Université d’Evry, in the department of sociology since 2011. He is also member of the Centre d’Analyse et d’Intervention Sociologiques (CADIS). He manages a research program on the third generation of Kurdish jihadist among Isis and Al Qaeda. He is co-director, with Danièle Joly, of a research group on the nation state in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Serge Hagège holds a Ph.D in physical sciences and is director of studies at the CNRS. He has been attaché at the French Ambassy in Washington and Tokyo (1999-2005) and then advisor at the Ministry of Research (2006-2013). The CNRS then gave him a mission of coordination between international relations (2014-2016).

Adil Jazouli is representative at Commissariat Général à l’Égalité des Territoires. He joined the Ministry of Urban Affairs in 1997 where he created the Observatoire National des Zones Urbaines Sensibles. He is a well-known specialist of the French suburbs and of public policies related to these issues. He is an active member of community and civic mouvements. He published many articles and books on suburbs and working-class areas.
