Biography

Marie Kortam is an Associate Researcher at the French Institute of the Near East (IFPO – Beirut) and a member of the Arab Council for Social Sciences.

In 2015-16 she was a Dahrendorf visiting fellow at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin and in 2014 at the Christian Michelsen Institute in Bergen. She holds a PhD in sociology and a Master’s in social sciences from the University of Paris-Diderot.

From 1999 to 2004 she worked as a social worker in urban deprived areas in Tripoli and UNRWA. Her research focuses on globalised violence, the radicalisation process, segregation, reconfigurations and practices of violence in a comparative analysis between Europe and Middle-East.

She is the author of two books and numerous journal articles and book chapters, in Arabic, English and French on these issues.
