From violence to exiting violence, a comparative perspective

In the context of expanding conflict in the Euro-Mediterranean region, the Fondation Maison des sciences de l’homme and Carnegie Corporation of New York will convene members of the International Panel on Exiting Violence (IPEV) and United Nations officials to discuss policy options for the process of de-escalating social conflict and violent transnational movements.

A strong emphasis will be put on militant transnational actors in the Arab region, and the spillover effects of conflict in the West. Approaches towards de-radicalization, peace-building and reconciliation will also be analyzed and discussed through a comparative lens with the processes of violence and exiting violence in Latin America as a frame of reference.

The discussion will be chaired by William O’Neill, director of the « Conflict prevention and peace forum », Social Science Research Council, New York.

Rountable at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host a panel discussion dealing with the works of the Panel, with a strong emphasis on the Working Groups Between Salafism, Sectarianism and violence: the new faces of radicalization, Radicalization, a comparative perspective, and Women and violence with a gendered approach: MENA region and diaspora.

The first conclusions and recommendations for exiting violence will be outlined and policy options for the process of de-escalating social conflict and violent transnational movements will be discussed. The roundtable will be chaired by Michele Dunne, senior fellow and director of the Middle East Program at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
